Abigail's Story

Abigail, a resilient five-year-old, entered this world with a disability that her father couldn't bear to accept. His abandonment left Abigail and her mother alone in the harsh realities of extreme poverty, their only refuge being a small tomato vending shop in Nakawuka Katalemwa.
Despite her mother's tireless efforts, the weight of poverty made it impossible to afford Abigail's school fees and the customised shoes crucial for her mobility. It was in this darkest hour that the Essanyu Lyamukade wange foundation, dedicated to empowering elders and their dependents, became their guiding light.
With the foundation's support, funds were raised to provide Abigail with custom-made shoes crafted by experts at the Mulago Orthopaedic Department. Through perseverance and dedication, Abigail received her specialized footwear on the 11th of February 2024, marking a pivotal moment in her journey towards education and independence.
On the 19th of February, Abigail proudly stepped into We Win Primary School in Katalemwa cell, her spirit undaunted by the challenges she had overcome. Despite the odds stacked against her, Abigail's dreams burned brightly, fueled by her unwavering determination to become a surgeonist and make a difference in the world.
