Empowering elderly Women Through Self-Care: Accelerating Progress 8th March 2024

In celebration of International Women's Day and in alignment with its theme of "Invest in women: Accelerate progress," Essanyu Lyamukade Wange Foundation, in partnership with Inory Afros Natural Hair Salon, a salon specializing in natural hair care, celebrated it to honor and uplift elder women in Nakawuka Katalemwa Cell.
The event commenced at 10 AM with a warm welcome hosted by Mukyala Zawedde, followed by a nourishing breakfast and engaging interactions. The focus then shifted to a session on hair maintenance, highlighting the effects of hair dyeing, particularly at an older age. Elders were encouraged to embrace their grey hair as a symbol of wisdom and life experiences, fostering self-acceptance and empowerment. This session, led by Ms. Iryn, CEO of Inory Afros Natural hair salon, aimed to instill confidence and celebrate the natural beauty of aging.
After the enlightening discussion, the elders expressed their appreciation, and the practical aspect began. Hair washing, treatment, and trimming were carried out with care and attention over a three-hour session. The event served as a poignant reminder that self-care is an integral part of the aging process and overall well-being. Beyond merely being free from illnesses, true health encompasses cleanliness, self-respect, and nurturing oneself holistically.
The event concluded at 3 PM, marking a day filled with empowerment, dignity, and celebration of womanhood. By investing in the holistic well-being of women, especially elder women, we not only honor their contributions but also accelerate progress towards a more equitable and inclusive society. This event exemplifies the importance of self-care and empowerment in fostering resilience, dignity, and vitality among women of all ages.
